EFCC begins probe of Alison-Madueke, may arrest her in London
The Economic and Financial crimes Commission (EFCC) on Sunday revealed it has set up a four man commitee to investigate the activities of former petroleum minister Mrs Alison-Madueke while in office during the immediate past administration of Goodluck Jonathan.
The committee is led by a commissioner of police and contains other civilian operatives with expertise in investigation.
Mrs Alison-Madueke, former Chief Security Officer, J. Obuah were on Saturday accused of corrupt practices after the panel set up by president Buhari exposed details of purchase of an address stage for $6.9Mn-A price that was far from the real price of the stages and which was wrongly deducted from the account of the NNPC.
About a week ago, Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ajjampur R. Ghanashyam revealed that the accused failed to sign a long-term agreement but rather used intermediaries in the annual $14 billion deal and charged a $25 million signature bonus in deals with New Delhi, Nigeria’s Number One oil buyer.
Also another group, Crusader for Good Governance, had earlier petitioned the EFCC accusing the former minister of squandering million of dollars of public funds to charter private jets. The petitioners also accused her of spending $300,000 on an average international trip and that she maintained a Challenger 850 Visa jet which serves the former minister’s needs as well as those of her family. The cost of running the jet is $500,000 per month.
She was also accused of going to a meeting of the Oil Producing and Exporting Countries in Austria in a private jet.
It was gathered on Sunday that the committee set up by the EFCC had since commenced probing the NNPC accounts and activities of the former minister.
