UI student slumps, dies, during examination
Choi,an unidentified student of the University of Ibadan has slumped and died during the first semester examination of the school on Friday.
The deceased, a Distance Leaning Centre, DLC of the University of Ibadan in Lagos died between 1:30 and 2.00pm shortly after writing POS 111 examination at the UI Adebayo Akande DLC at No. Oba Akran, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
A student of the school, who craved anonymity, said that the deceased after writing POS 111 examination complained of headache and said he needed rest before the next paper.
Shortly after that, he was said to have slumped, with the management of the DLC not doing enough to revive as there was no ambulance at the centre to convey him to the hospital.
The deceased, said to be in his late 20s was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, after a student chartered a cab to take him there where he was rejected on the fact that he was already dead.
On getting back to the DLC, it was gathered that the deceased gasped, which led to another urgent move to take him to another hospital. He was taken to the Lagoon Hospital, Awolowo Way where he was confirmed dead.
Students of the DLC blamed the management of the centre for being careless, saying that if they had rushed the deceased to the hospital on time, he might not have died.
Owing to the tragedy, the U.I DLC management has suspended the ongoing examination of the centre.
In a message sent to all students, the management said the examinations had been suspended in view of the tragedy that occurred.
“In view of the regrettable and sad incident in Lagos this afternoon, the first semester exams are hereby suspended. We seek the understanding of our students especially those in Lagos at this time.
“We will do our best to address the situation. Please, remain calm at this trying moment. We will get back to you all,” the management said.
