After Being Charged With Rape, Cop Spends One Day In Jail And Five Months On "Paid Vacation"
A Germantown police officer is off the job tonight, but not off the streets, as he has been charged with the aggravated rape and domestic assault he committed five months prior. He had remained employed and on paid suspension (aka paid vacation) for the entire almost half-year while the investigation was pending.
According to the affidavit, his victim went to the Rape Crisis Center to report that James Kensinger had choked and raped her in a Memphis house two days prior. Her claims include the details of Officer Kensinger yanking her inside of the home, ripping her clothes off her body and forcing himself on her as she repeatedly begged him to "stop!"
A nurse who specializes in treating sexual assault victims confirms her story due to the bruises found and other physical damage. Kensinger was freed a day after he was jailed on a $70,000 bond, and was kept on payroll for five months following at the tax-payers expense before his termination.
Before this heinous crime was committed, the officer in question actually boasted a pretty thick personnel file with the Germantown Police Department including sleeping on the job, going to the wrong locations, not filing basic information when getting a missing person's report, failing to answer the radio/respond to calls, etc.
In this case so far, this rapist has gotten no more than a slap on the hand. He spent no more than a day in jail, and will likely be hired onto another department - as is what happens in many of these cases. What line must be crossed before you are never allowed to wear a badge again?
