The Lagos State Police Command says it
is not in a hurry to release the corpse of the Assistant Commissioner of
Police in Area K Command, Morogbo, Badagry, Mr. Osung Ekpo, to the
family for burial as it is still awaiting the autopsy result.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, spoke on Tuesday in an interview.
It had reported on Tuesday that Ekpo drowned in La Avalon Hotel’s swimming pool in the Ajah area on Valentine’s Day.
The police spokesperson, Badmos, said no one in the hotel was suspected or arrested.
She added that Ekpo was a senior police officer and he could not be buried without following due process.
She said, “If someone dies in active
service, there are steps to follow. He was a senior police officer; he
was an ACP, and nobody can hurriedly bury him. We will give him a
befitting burial.
“It is not true that we arrested the
hotel manager. The hotel has also not been sealed off. Except maybe the
hoteliers decided to close to mourn him.
“We also do not have a report that he
was with female guests. The situation was that the ACP was an active
man. I jog every morning too. He used to swim, and he did it in the
hotel for years. Maybe his health failed him on that day.”
